Aoraki Mt Cook National Park walks range from short 15-30 minute walks to 3-4 days of quite strenuous hiking.Choose some walks to suit your fitness level and time while on your holidays in New Zealand. You will be treated to some magical scenery in a very unique part of the world.
Below are some popular walks in the park – you can get more information at either DOC ( Department of Conservation ) or the Lake Pukaki Information Centre.

Governors Bush Walk (1 hour return)
This popular walk offers birdlife, a good view of the mountains and shelter. It is a gradual climb through silver beech forest to a lookout point with a gradual descent back to the village. .
Bowen Bush Walk (10 minutes return)
This easy walk begins across the road from Alpine Guides. The loop track takes you through totara and celery pine forest with an alternative exit or entry towards Glencoe Lodge.
Glencoe Walk (30 minutes return)
Starting behind the Hermitage..... you walk through totara trees to a lookout near the water tanks above the Hermitage. Walkers get lovely views of the village and out to the Hooker Glacier and Aoraki/Mount Cook. Try and go at either sunrise or sunset for really beautiful scenery.
Sealy Tarns Track (3 - 4 hours return)
With spectacular views of the Hooker Valley and the surrounding mountain peaks including Aoraki/Mount Cook....there are masses of alpine flowers in summer, and lovely views to reward your efforts.
Ball Shelter Hut Route (3 - 4 hours one way)
Follow the old Ball Hut Road alongside Tasman Glacier. Ball Shelter is close to the historic Ball Hut site and offers superb views of the glacier and surrounding peaks. This is a walk that requires care as some parts are unstable. Sign in at the Visitor Centre if you plan to stay at the hut. ($8 per night.)Climbing in Aoraki Mount Cook National Park
