Auckland Zoo - A Themed Wildlife Animal Park!

alt.Auckland-Zoo.jpg

alt.-Hippo-Auckland-Zoo.jpg Auckland Zoo is one of the nicest zoo’s I have visited anywhere ....with open spaces for the animals and plenty of stimulation to keep the animals active. The Zoo is also set up for visitors to get as close a view of the Zoo workings as is safely possible.....with a variety of programmes to engage the public.

Years ago, I co-ordinated the Auckland Zoo Safari ...a school holiday programme. There have been many changes since then, bringing the zoo into a modern era where the animals have more space to move, in an environment more similar to their natural habitat.

Themed Zoo Areas

alt.Three-Young-Tigers-Auckland-Zoo.jpg The themed areas include
  • Pridelands for the Lions
  • Hippo River
  • The Rainforest
  • Asian Elephants,
  • NZ Aviary
  • Kiwi and Tuatara House
  • Primate Trail
  • Penguin Shores

All set amongst beautiful tropical plantings, flowing streams, grasslands and huge trees.

Animals You Can Expect to See

alt.Kay-the-Giraffe-Auckland-Zoo.jpg The Zoo has a wide range of animals including all the favourites. You can expect to see -

Activities at Auckland Zoo To Participate In

There is also a whole range of activities for the visitor to participate in organised by the zoo. Check as you go in for feeding and activity times.

Safari Nights which can be enjoyed by
  • Staying overnight
  • Taking part in a BBQ at the Zoo
  • A guided night walk.
  • Concerts are held every so often.

ZOOM is a programme which allows visitors to get up close to the animals and learn about the many zoo animals from the keepers.

Guided Golf Cart Tour. For those short on time or unable to walk too far...there is a 45 minute tour on a golf cart.

Friends of the Zoo Pass is a wonderful gift for a child who loves to visit the zoo often. There are different combinations of the Flexi Pass $120 annual subscription, which allows the child entry with different adults.

Watch the Vets You can watch the vets operating in the late afternoon if you are there between 2.00 and 4.00pm. The clinic is glassed for a fascinating full view of the vets working on the animals. A must for any prospective young vet ! alt.Lemurs-Auckland-Zoo.jpg
