Camping New Zealand
Holiday Parks, DOC Camps, Camping Grounds - The Choice is Yours!

A NORTHLAND DOC CAMP
Camping New Zealand ensures you can have some wonderful holidays.New Zealander's are great campers, although sadly many of the large family camping grounds in beachside locations are closing down and being used for housing. The city council rates make them uneconomic!Despite this there are still a huge number of excellent camping grounds to choose from. You Can Choose From - DOC (Department of Conservation) Camps in many beautiful, invariably beach,or lakeside locations. These are very cheap. Therefore you will have very basic facilities. No cooking kitchens , cold showers only, and toilets. You need to see a ranger to check in. They are usually on the premises, as you arrive. Or signs will send you to a suitable place to check in.http://www.doc.govt.nz
- Council owned and run camping grounds. Many council run camping grounds are in the cities. They usually have good facilities, with campers kitchens, hot showers, and bathroom and laundry facilities. They are often heavily booked in the summer – the peak time is between 26th December to February 1st. The very peak time 26th December through to early January. They reserve some camping sites for short stay tourists, but it pays to arrive earlier in the afternoon, to ensure a spot!
- Privately owned and run camping grounds. These are variable in what they offer. Some will be reasonably basic, although you should have a kitchen, hot showers and toilets. Family Parks New Zealand
- Campervan Only Camping GroundsThere are a few campervan only camping grounds.
- Holiday ParksOthers are franchised 4 star Holiday Parks, which usually have wonderful facilities with cabins, on site caravan hire, swimming pools, spa pools, children’s play areas and a shop. The Top Ten Holiday Parks are well known with a good selection through out the country.
Most camping grounds will have a number of power points for caravans and camper vans, as well as tent sites. There will be rules that it is essential campers comply with, so other campers are happy. Many camps will expect noise to be limited after 10.00pm.Some may even close their gates after that time. They will either have a facility for you to get a key, or you should be able to make some arrangement if you will be arriving back later than their closing time. The majority either have a basic shop on site, or are very near to shops.
