Merino is Fantastic for Travelling!
I love taking merino garments travelling- They take no space
- Weigh almost nothing
- I know that I have something warm to put on, if the weather decides to let me down!
Combine a camisole with merino long sleeved tops which you can wear either under or over other garments. They are just perfect for layering. If I know I am going to a country where I will need winter wear, I go the whole hog with the - merino possum gloves
- hat
- scarf
- Sweater or jumpers
- Cardigan
A sleeveless wool camisole is just wonderful if you are wearing evening wear, but know it may be cool. Even if I am going to the tropics, I always throw in a merino wool top! Usually, knowing at the very least, I may need it as we near home.
Merino Wool Socks - sooooo cosy!
My absolute favourite is the merino possum socks! They are so cosy! I find if my feet are warm, then I do not feel the cold so much ..........................Have you guessed I am something of a hot house flower! Auckland is probably not considered a particularly cold climate, yet in winter, I live in merino/possum wool socks! All my family have received numerous pairs as presents – they are easy to post........... and of course being light, postage is cheaper than many other items I could send. For tramping or hiking, they are perfect, as even if your feet are wet, they are still warm. Cotton really is the worst fabric to wear when you are in the bush. It is cold, and gets very heavy if wet, which makes it dangerous The merino and merino/possum clothing items are fantastic when you are
skiing, snowboarding
or any of the multitude of extreme sports you may be indulging in on your holiday too. You really can’t go past them. Have a look at the selection below. Originally merino possum was in its natural state and the wool was a gorgeous flecked light and dark brown. It is still one of my favourite colours, but there is a full range of lovely colours to choose from these days.
NOTE: For those who have not met opossums before. They are a rather cute LOOKING nocturnal animal...........the size of a cat, with a long bushy tale and big ears. Opossums were introduced into New Zealand from Tasmania, in 1837 to be used in the fur industry. Unfortunately, in New Zealand, with no natural predators they have become a major pest. They consume huge quantities of our native foliage nightly, and eventually kill the trees, eat eggs from the nests of our native birds and are a real threat to our native flora and fauna.
