New Zealand Adventure Travel -

for a trip of a lifetime!

New Zealand Adventure Travel opportunities abound! Is this the kind of holiday you are hoping for? You are coming to the right place if you love to do battle with the elements and get that adrenaline pumping. Or need to go home knowing you have achieved a hike, kayak or trip into terrain relatively few people have been. The options are so numerous, your biggest problem may be making a choice.

Perhaps your adventure travel in New Zealand entails trying a medley of heart stopping activities jumping from bridges and high wires. New Zealand is the home of the original bungy jump, inspired by a traditional manhood ritual in Vanuatu. New Zealander AJ Hackett, developed the first bungee, which you can still try in Queenstown, at Kawarau Bridge. We have over 10 different bungy experiences..........or can you imagine the thrill of walking the perimeter of the Auckland Sky Tower – the highest tower in the Southern Hemisphere?

For some, descending the depths into the many caves, is a must. Blackwater rafting, caving, or the more gentle Waitomo boat trip, seeking out the light of glow worms and whatever it is that attracts people underground, is what New Zealand adventure travel is all about.

Kayaking the Wanganui River

Kayaking the Wanganui River

Adventure on the water may be surfing our wild West Coast beaches, deep sea fishing, deep sea diving, or kayaking the coast or rivers. The 5 day kayak down the Wanganui River, or the Abel Tasman National Park are many New Zealander’s favourites.

Parasailing, wakeboarding, hot air ballooning............... TAKE YOUR PICK!

If the call of the mountains brings you to New Zealand for some adventure travel you will no doubt be heliskiing, climbing, mountain biking or having a crack at the luge in Queenstown or Rotorua.

Skiing and snowboarding can bring its own adventures, especially if the elements decide to give us all a wake up call. Mt Ruapehu has a habit of giving a few rumbles and has on occasion given some spectacular bursts of volcanic activity. However, all is well under control, and we mostly have plenty of warning.

Lord of the Rings Country - Mt Ngaurahoe

All these adventure travel activities are found in New Zealand for those in search of a thrill.

Experience our wonderful New Zealand scenery. If you love to hike or tramp, our beautiful lush bush offers some wonderful tramping tracks and flora and fauna. The canopy consists of huge native trees such as our emblem tree the Kauri, totara, rimu, kahikatea and more, many from 300 to over 1,00years old. These are undergrown with elegant ponga and tree ferns, strange small trees called lancewood, and a variety of small native ferns and plants, many used by Maori for medicinal purposes, and food.

The many native New Zealand birds will delight you with their melodic song, and in the undergrowth lurks our most loved national bird, the Kiwi.. Rarely seen, being a shy and nocturnal bird, the call of the kiwi can be heard at night, if you know what to listen for.

The bush, clothing mountainsides with rushing rivers and streams coursing their deepest valleys, interlaced with spilling waterfalls, make for some wonderfully adventurous travel in New Zealand’s remoter areas.

Camping in the Bush

Many will want to take a few days to do the Milford Track, Routeburn Track, Heaphy Track or one of the numerous other well known tramps .If time is limited, you may prefer a day hiking the bush tracks often accessed on the sides of the road near lakes or rivers. Tongariro Crossing which goes over Mt Ngaurahoe( Mt Doom in the Lord of the Rings) – is considered New Zealand’s most popular day walk. A day walk? Yes.........read my account of my own New Zealand Travel Adventure.

Your New Zealand adventure travel may run to jet boating or rafting the wild rivers.Perhaps a 4WD safari through the back country............... GREAT FUN! Macetown is one I recommend - you are driven through up to 30 rivers, across historic gold mining land , arriving at the original (now ghost) town.

Prefer adventure travels of the less nail biting kind? Swimming with dolphins, or a spot of whale watching will fulfill your need for an exciting New Zealand travel adventure.
