These five companies would probably be the most well known with large fleets that are located around New Zealand. Type in your preferred dates, the size of the motorhome you want and have a look at the specifications and quote price. Once you have decided which van suits you.... go ahead and make your booking. Good camping grounds are in every city and town, at many beaches and of course, being totally self contained, you also have the opportunity to stop anywhere suitable for a break for the night. There are free camping grounds for self contained vans near many main centres. You can check for these at the local Information Centres. NOTE: To camp free you must have a fully self contained van with toilet, shower etc Check for signs that may say camping is forbidden in some places.

New Zealand Motorhome Hire Discounted Opportunity
Worth checking out if you are travelling from Christchurch to Auckland usually around November or in a Low season, is the opportunity to rent a motorhome at an extremely cheap rate to drive back to Auckland. Maui often advertise this and other companies may also. You will not have time to deviate too much though. You are allowed 5 days for the trip usually.
New Zealand Driving Conditions
You will need to allow for the terrain and distances in your travel times.New Zealand may be small in population, but it is a long narrow country which means our travel distances are more than you might expect. Our roads are also hilly and can be windy, some are unsealed, so extra time is required to travel the same distance on a road that does not have the same difficult terrain. Further considerations are weather. Some areas are subject to wind, rain and snow which will mean slower travelling times, or closed roads in extreme conditions. Your rental company will be able to inform you if any of these problems might occur.Winter, or autumn/spring would be the most likely. NOTE There are a few roads that are so dangerous, rental vehicles are not allowed to be driven on them.
