New Zealand Products

Unique gifts and souvenirs!

New Zealand Products are mostly agricultural based. This means natural products from animals or plants. With the variety of products available today, shopping in New Zealand is a revelation. With a range of uniquely New Zealand products that are popular with tourists to take home for gifts or personal memories of their visit, you will be amazed at the variety and quality of what is on offer. If the articles seem too bulky, or you have ongoing travel and don’t want to carry them, you can usually ask the shop to post direct to your home. There will be a commensurate charge, but this is often a good way of lightening your luggage load.

Sheepskin Products

Being reknowned for its sheep, you will find a wide variety when shopping for New Zealand sheepskin products. You can enjoy the soft, cosy feel of sheepskin for years to come. Some of the products you will see:

• Sheepskin rugs

• Sheepskin slippers – very soft, cosy and warm. Many have soles to make them very hard wearing.

• Sheepskin toys – from small to large

New Zealand Wool Products

We have wonderful 100% pure wool garments made from merino wool. Knitwear may also be a New Zealand invention of wool mixed with possum fur - merino/possum. With the possum – an Australian nocturnal animal introduced to New Zealand and a major pest in this country, it was a good way to use some of the pelts. The result is the softest, lightest products. The original colour was a mid brown with the dark possum fleck. Now they have dyes and come in a full range of beautiful colours – reds, greens, blues, browns, black, grey.

Look for:

• Cardigans

• Jumpers or Jerseys

• Gloves and Mittens

• Scarves

• Hats

Undergarments made of merino wool are very popular, cheap and great for travelling as they are light, easy care, come in a huge colour range and can be worn underneath or as jumpers. So are very good for layering. Because they are pure wool, they breathe.

Look for

• Tops with sleeves

Handknitted garments can be found in many tourist shops. These are a beautiful item to take home, made from the best wools and hand knitted by a local knitter.
