New Zealand Public Holidays

Plan around school and public holidays!

There are a number of New Zealand Public Holidays it is worth knowing about. The information on this page will help you plan. Preferably you can avoid arriving, and finding yourself competing with holidaying locals for the same accommodation and transport. You will find you are driving on extra busy roads and queuing, when a few days earlier or later you will be able to do your sightseeing in relative quiet. New Zealander's will be at work, school, university etc.

New Zealand Public holidays are worth taking into consideration, especially over the summer months.School is out from the week before Christmas to the first week of February.

Holidays can also impact on prices of both airfares and accommodation. There are several holidays that will change each year.My advice is go to this New Zealand Ministry of Education site to clarify the dates, which are shown for the next 3 years and will be updated regularly. Certain areas of New Zealand have their own anniversary day holidays - also located on this same site.
