New Zealand Travel Writing

and Articles

By sharing my New Zealand travel writing you will hopefully be inspired to try the experiences in the stories.

I don’t know about you but I am a travel addict who loves to read anything I can about travel destinations. They seem to have just that little bit more interest when you are either planning to go there, or have been there yourself.

New Zealander's generally are great travellers - it must be something to do with living so far away from the rest of the world- and we have some excellent travel magazines. Every month I see a new glossy New Zealand travel writing magazine on the shelves. For a small country it is surprising they survive.

I started this website because originally I planned to become a travel writer and spent the last year writing. However, on giving it some thought, I realised it would be much more rewarding to be “master of my own destiny” and combine my writing with a website where I can share my writing and information on New Zealand in my own way.

Some travel writing I find rather superficial. If I was wanting some information or a real “feel” for the experience, somehow the article misses conveying the experience for me. In some cases it is the format of the magazine that is limiting. I hope you enjoy my articles and they make you keen to have a go yourself.

I am including this section for New Zealand travel writing by me, and in time, others, who might like to share their New Zealand travel with you. Keep coming back to see any new articles that have been added.

Hopefully you will enjoy reading about New Zealand and be inspired to try these things yourself when you visit New Zealand. My husband Brian, and I, still have a lengthy list of festivals and activities we hope to do in the future. Many of these are unique to New Zealand. They are a great way of seeing New Zealander's as they are at home.

Read about the Wild Food Festival which is an annual event in Hokitika each March, on the west coast of the South Island. After talking about it for years, we made a special trip from our home in Auckland to go to the festival last year,2007. It really was a wonderful day.

With so many outdoor activities we are keen to do as many as possible while we are fit enough. The Tongariro Crossing is considered by many to be the best one day walk in New Zealand. While it has always been a popular walk, it has become an experience on the list of things every New Zealander “must” do at least once in their lifetime. It is also very popular with tourists who enjoy hiking or tramping.

These travel writing/ reading pages should whet your appetite for participating in some of New Zealand’s special events and experiences, and immersing yourself into the culture and fabric of our lovely country.
