The selection of Rotorua Agrodome Activities make for a popular day trip for visitors to Rotorua. The Sheep Show and Farm Shows have been running for years, with tourists from all over the world getting a thrill from seeing the farm activities in action.
They watch sheep shearing, see the highly entertaining demonstration of sheep dogs working, try bottle feeding lambs, milking cows , and watch a sheep auction. Something many New Zealander’s take for granted. But this is a real novelty for people from countries where these activities are not usual.
The Agrodome has recreated the shed to look like an authentic shearing shed from 60 years ago, with all the old equipment shearers used back then.At the woollen mill, you also have the opportunity to see the wool being processed from off the sheeps back, to becoming wool yarn, and finally, knitted into garments.
The fun of this popular Rotorua Agrodome activity is when they invite members of the audience to participate. It is a very entertaining, yet educational show.
Children love the Farm Show where they are taken around on a tractor. Walking amongst the different farm animals, they can experience them at close quarters. These include sheep, cattle, deer, alpaca, ostrich and emus. They also get a taste of what horticultural farming is all about as they see kiwifruit, olives, feijoas and apples growing naturally. For some this may be the first time they learn that milk, meat, and fruit do not come from “the shop”!

Adrenaline Pumping Rotorua Agrodome Activities
Now the Agrodome have a whole range of new activities at the same location. Not your usual adrenaline rush activities either. These are adrenaline rushes of a different kind!
Yes, you can bungee from the 43 meter tower. But have you ever tried a Zorb? Or a Shweeb? Or even a Swoop? No ?.....well here is the place to try these unusual fun activities.
Swoop - is your chance to experience hang gliding – without actually hang gliding. You are harnessed into a hang gliding harness, with one or two friends if you prefer, then hauled 40 meters into the air. One lucky person gets to pull the rip chord and...........you Swoop ground ward.
THE SWOOP - A You Tube Video
Shweeb - is the first human powered monorail race track. And yes.........you have to pedal mighty hard to move the Shweeb pod around the track. You can have one to four people shweebing at a time – so can actually have races, where 5 shweeb pods link together to form a train.
As this is the only Shweeb in the world, you will need to come to Rotorua Agrodome to actively try it.
Zorb - seems to be extremely popular. Although why rolling down a steep hill sitting inside a huge clear plastic ball is so popular, I am not sure. You are harnessed in to place before your whole world turns upside down, round and round. I wonder if anyone has counted how many somersaults they end up doing.
A Radio announcement for the birth of the Zorb
Water Zorb - This is the same as the zorb, but this time you sit inside your ball partially filled with water. Great on a hot day!
Freefall Xtreme - is another unique stomach wrenching Rotorua Agrodome activity waiting for you. If you have always wanted to fly and experience freefall- now is your chance. The only one in the Southern Hemisphere, this is a skydive simulator, where a machine creates a windtunnel. You can fall, try some air tricks and know you will safely land into a twelve metre beautifully soft, air cushion.
There are other activities run by the Rotorua Agrodome, not necessarily on site.
Jetboating– The Agrojet will take you on a jetboating experience to remember.
HeliPro – A helicopter excursion flying over thermal activity and the surrounding area, the views must be magnificent flying over Mokoia Island in the middle of Lake Rotorua, and Mt Tarawera.White Island is an amazing place, for those keen to do a tour and land on a still active volcanic island.
