Transport Options

Self drive or Public Transport?

There are a number of New Zealand transport options you can choose from when planning how you will get around New Zealand on your holiday. Where you want to go,and what you plan to do and see will have some bearing on your choice.

An organised tour for some people means you do not have to worry about too much planning. But many of you will prefer the option of independent travel and this certainly gives you the opportunity to be flexible, and see and do things that are a little off the beaten track and not on the usual tourist itinerary.

Self drive is a popular transport option

For many a motorhome or campervan is the ultimate in independence. Choose a rental campervan or motorhome or a rental car, to suit your requirements, using hotels, motels, B and B’s or backpackers, for accommodation. This does give you the opportunity to do whatever takes your fancy.

KiwiCombo Pass , New Zealand Freewheeling rental car and accommodation pass of New Zealand, offers a mix of independent self drive/ accommodation packages to suit all needs and budgets as another choice. You may find using a mix of options works best.

If you choose to go with public transport you could use any, all or some of these options

• taxis

• buses ( see a variety of Bus Pass details)

• trains

• ferries

• day tours
