Windsurfing

Hire a board and enjoy New Zealand's Many Excellent Locations!

alt.windsurfing-new-zealand.jpg

Windsurfing is a very popular sport in New Zealand and Tom Ashley has just won a New Zealand gold again in the Olympics for Board Sailing as it is sometimes called. The Kendall brother and sister , in particular Barbara, have also won several Olympic medals, and she competed at her 4th Olympics this year.

With two coastlines you can choose which is the best option on the day, dependent on the weather conditions. There are also many lakes which are popular for and wind water sports.

While it is a competitive sport, it also something anyone can try on holiday, so long as they choose a destination where the conditions are good. It is preferable to have wind...but not too strong...to start with.

Many of the popular beaches will hire out boards.

  • Bay of Islands
  • Auckland
  • Lake Taupo
  • Wellington
  • New Plymouth
  • Nelson Lakes
  • Christchurch
  • Dunedin Beaches
  • Wanaka
  • Wakatipu
are all great locations for this popular sport. So if you are keen to try it on your holiday, keep an eye out for the beachside huts that have boards for hire.

Here is an excellent site for all the information you need about hire, lessons, best places and much more.Windzurf.co.nz
